Journey of Culture: Exploring Diversity at International Day


Introduction

On Saturday, January 13th, 2024, a remarkable event unfolds at Huafu International Department. It is none other than the highly anticipated International Day. International Day transports us to 35 different countries without ever stepping our foot outside the campus. International Day is a celebration of unity, where individuals come together to appreciate various cultures and conventions of corresponding countries. What’s more, International Day is not only just about students providing gourmet tasting and performances, but also it carries a deeper purpose. The income will be fully dedicated to Guangzhou Social Welfare Institute, supporting individuals in need, especially kid, which corresponds to the slogan “Bless Children, Cheer for Love”.

The stage was set, and students eagerly embraced the opportunity to immerse themselves in the vibrant tapestry of global diversity that awaited the HFIers; it’s a distinguished gateway to a universe of possibilities. Welcome to the 10thInternational Day, where dreams meet reality and cultures collide in a symphony of diversity.

Stalls Exhibition

All the stalls are set up beneath the semicircular gallery surrounding the grand stage, and students in 4 grades, 16 classes, are assigned to represent 35 different countries separately.

It’s worth mentioning that teachers are in charge of the China stall, and by using Chinese characters that have a similar pronunciation to “Offers Received Dreams Proceed” on the board upon the stall, teachers convey their sincere wishes and expectations towards seniors. Additionally, teachers also prepare candied strawberries for sale, and some of them even dress in traditional Chinese costumes to show their affection for Chinese culture and cheer for the China stall.

Apart from the teachers, the student stalls also shone brightly in this event, showcasing their imagination and talents.



For instance, the Argentina group of students from Gaudi class brings exotic bliss to the visitors. Meticulously hand-painted mate tea cups are popularly sold, turning tea drinking into a delightful and dual enjoyment of visual and taste. They also offer face-painting services that use vibrant colors to foster a visual feast for every individual involved, conveying a message of optimism and hope and encouraging people to actively engage and embrace the joy of beauty.


Reap the Harvest

Behind the successfully executed International Day ascribes to the diligent efforts of students over two to three months. For freshmen, it is an exceptional chance to display themselves. However, the process of finally getting to the destination is actually full of challenges and obstacles. Throughout months, students have to not only participate in the whole event, but also ensure the profits. Notwithstanding, HFIers remained efficient, assuring the seamless conclusion of the International Day, gaining precious bonds with their peers and achieving self-transcendence.


“It is quite demanding for me to organize the group at first since some students’ commitment are not that high, and it’s quite challenging to set the price attributes to the uncertainty of our first International Day” shared by Monica Lu, the team leader of Kate Norway, “Also, this is my first time taking on the role of a leader in a large-scale event. Though I felt a bit disheartened at times due to some team members respond not promptly, my leadership skills and communication abilities have indeed greatly enhanced.”

Extraordinary Performances

Amidst the bustling stalls, captivating performs unfolds at the heart of the stage. The performers range from HFIers to parents and teachers. As the International Day reaches its pinnacle, the atmosphere is filled with excitement and anticipation. All the performers act extraordinary well, and have left an indelible impression on audiences.

In this vibrant setting, a group of students from Andrew take the stage. They perform a K-pop song called “Drama”, with lyrics excluding a confident attitude, proclaiming the concept of the song “Every Story Starts with Me,” and bringing an empowering message. Their performance is a seamless coalition of skill and enthusiasm, as the students’ synchronized movements and unwavering confidence echoed throughout the stage, showcasing visitors the relevant Korean music style.

Moreover, with the recent revival of the beloved music film La La Land, students from Rana delivered a spectacular show. The power of their performance was undeniable, as it resonated deeply with the audience spread the distinctive jazz music culture from America. More importantly, it is certifiably that the song “Another Day of Sun”, and the outstanding performance of the “Ranaers” have the enduring magic to inspire and unite people through the universal language of music and dance.

Conclusion

International day is a grand event that brings growth, showing social compassion and the school’s eagerness for culture integration. It has unprecedented significance, since charities and kindness are collected to kids in need. Additionally, it is evidence of HFI’s dedication to promoting students’ global awareness and encouraging the tolerance of different customs and backgrounds. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all the individuals and organizations that share their unique talents and efforts. Their contributions enrich the event and have been instrumental in creating this meaningful and memorable International Day.
